Recently, we welcomed Donald the Disabled Rooster to our flock. Donald was a product of a first grade school project in Napa, Calif. As he hatched from the shell, his legs were clearly deformed.
When Donald arrived at Harvest Home, his lower limbs were a sight to see. One of his legs was splayed at a 90 degree angle, while the other leg was supported with curled toes. This four-month-old rooster’s situation looked grim. His daily routine was a struggle. A struggle to reach food and water. A struggle to stay clean. A struggle to move without thrashing around.
Before long, Donald visited Medical Center for Birds of Oakley for an evaluation. To our surprise, our vets were optimistic Donald could gain mobility through a surgical procedure. A $1,000+ surgery.
As a budding animal rescue organization, Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary struggles to cover costs every month. However, it is our duty to provide quality care for our needy residents. Donald is no exception.
Today, Donald is scheduled to undergo surgery. We are calling on you with a compassionate plea to make A Donation for Donald. We want our chicken man to have the chance to walk on pasture for the first time. You can help make this small miracle a reality!

I’m the person who begged and pleaded to many animal rescue folks in Ca. to accept Donald. I knew of him via my neighbor who worked at the vet clinic where Donald lived. No one was even remotely interested in taking in Donald, until Harvest Home heard of his plight–stepped forward to offer him a home–and I GLEEFULLY delivered him to their doorstep. If they hadn’t taken him his future was in serious jeopardy. I am so grateful to them for taking him, and even more excited that his legs will be operated on to allow for more mobility. Donald was hand raised by people and is a big love. I highly encourage you to make a donation to Harvest Home during this “giving” season to help Donald. Sincerely, Cory Mitcham
